Reception Sept 2020

We are so pleased that your child has been offered a place here at Westminster Community Primary School, starting in the academic year 2020/21. On behalf of the staff, governors, children, and parents, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school community.

Miss Gilbert has been part of the Westminster family for two years and has been the teacher in our Reception class since she joined. Miss Gilbert leads Science and Forest School across the school. Mrs Davies is the Teaching Assistant in our Reception class and has been in Reception for the last 5 years. Mrs Davies has a keen interest in the outdoor area and has worked hard to develop our outdoor area for the children to enjoy.

Under normal circumstances, we would now be inviting you into school during the Summer Term to spend time in our classroom so you can meet the staff and your child could meet the children in their new class. However, we are unable to do this due to current conditions. We find ourselves in an unprecedented set of circumstances and anticipate the possible anxiety your family may currently feel about your child’s transition into Reception but we would like to assure you that an induction process of some kind will take place.

Schools are working within a constantly changing environment, with different versions of guidance coming from the DfE on a daily basis. We, therefore, ask for your patience whilst we put together plans which are practical, flexible, and above-all mutually beneficial in supporting the best possible start to your child’s school life. If you would like to contact us please contact us by email at and we will do our best to share information about our school and answer any questions you may have regarding your child starting school.

We have created a document with information that you may need and you can access this in the files section at the bottom of this page. I have also attached the Cheshire West and Chester 'School Readiness' booklet for you to read.

During the Summer Term, our EYFS Teacher would usually visit all children in their current preschool settings and also your home address. We will, in the present circumstances, make contact by telephone and email.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and welcoming you and your child to our school as soon as we are able.

Update - Our current plan.

School opens for Reception children on Wednesday 2nd September.  On Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd, the class will be split in two to enable the children to access introductory sessions in smaller groups.  Your child has been placed in group A or group B for these days and will attend as outlined below.  From Friday 4th September onwards all children will attend together as a full class.

Group A

Wednesday 2nd

Group B

Thursday 3rd

I have emailed you all to tell you which group your child is in. Please email me if you are unsure -

I have created a video for you and your child to watch. It shows the children their new classroom, some of our classroom space and also a little about the staff that will work with them every day. I hope you find it useful and they enjoy watching it! You can find it here
