Poetry
We enjoy exploring words and being creative
We provide rich opportunities for the children to explore poetry and to work with poets. This gives the children experience of creating poetry to express themselves and of performing for different audiences. Our annual anthologies follow the National Poetry Day themes each year and we also publish a Spotlight Book each Summer. We always enjoy our launch events where we can share our work with an appreciative audience.
Poetry Supper for National Poetry Day 2022
Ms Finch hosted our celebration event for National Poetry Day. The theme was The Environment and children were able to write and edit their work for inclusion in a specially collated anthology. There was such a lovely atmosphere whilst we gathered together to share food and words. A good poem requires a good audience and we had the perfect balance of this. There were 78 people in attendance, and everyone enjoyed a tasty array of food provided by Maria, with the help our some of our Governors, followed by poetry readings. Some comments from the evening include “I thought it was amazing”, “Very good poems by all. Great evening and event”, “Fabulous evening and beautiful poetry” and “Well done for such wonderful poems”.
Sophie's Book Launch July 2022:
Sophie worked to write, edit and illustrate this book during Year 6 and was then able to launch it at a celebratory event in July 2022. Each member of her class also contributed their poems to make this a rich collection.
Choice Anthology October 2021:
Using the National Poetry Day theme we worked with children across the school to publish an anthology to showcase their work.
'Would You Rather?' Launch June 2021:
This book featured four Spotlight Poets who each contributed a number of poems, and also poetry from other children (and staff) across the school. Our launch event was held online, with children attending virtually from home or from their classroom. It was a great success and we had some wonderful readings from our poets. if you would like to purchase a copy of the anthology, you can do so for £2.50.
