Forest School

At Westminster Community Primary, our Forest School reflects our school values of Inspire, Believe and Achieve. Over the last eight years, we have developed our Forest School into a vibrant space that supports curiosity, resilience and respect. We show our values by inspiring children to explore and take risks in a safe, supportive environment; by encouraging them to believe in themselves when faced with new challenges; and by helping them achieve success through teamwork, creativity and perseverance.  Through hands-on experiences, pupils develop independence, confidence and a deep respect for the natural world around them.

Children from Reception through to Year 6 take part in regular Forest School sessions that enhance our curriculum. Whether it’s den building, exploring wildlife habitats, learning fire-lighting skills, or working creatively with natural materials, pupils enjoy a wide variety of opportunities that bring learning to life. Being outside not only supports health and wellbeing, but also encourages imagination, perseverance and a sense of adventure. In this way, Forest School helps every child to believe in themselves and achieve their potential while developing skills that will last a lifetime.

Our Forest School area has grown and improved year by year. We have planted trees kindly donated by The Woodland Trust, used natural resources provided by a local timber yard, and worked hard to transform the site into a safe and welcoming place for learning. With the help of our Eco-Club, pupils have taken an active role in clearing rubbish, improving habitats, and ensuring the area continues to thrive. These efforts have not only enhanced our outdoor space but also given children the opportunity to take ownership of their environment and see the positive impact of their hard work.
