Miss Smethurst
I qualified as a teacher in July 2022 and am excited to be working at Westminster Community Primary School. I have previously worked in a different school and worked in all classes from Reception to Year 6. Outside of school, I love to do anything arty and enjoy spending time with friends and family.

Reading
Children will also have weekly comprehension lessons. These lessons target specific comprehensions skills and provide children with the opportunity to familarise themselves with a range of comprehension style questions, which will start to prepare them for year 6.
Children will complete half termly accelerated reading tests which will determine the children's current reading age. It is also a diagnostic tool which outlines which areas the children need support with.
Chidlren are expected to read daily. I appreciate lives outside of school are busy, so I will ensure that there are daily opportunities to read in school. Each time they read, children are expected to make a note of this in their reading record.
I have attached a reading list for each year group of books I would like the children to read this year.
Maths
At Westminster Primary School, we use Power Maths and White Rose. Power Maths is a UK curriculum mastery programme designed to spark curiosity, excitement and nurture confidence in maths. Built around a child centred lesson design that models and embeds a growth mindset approach to maths which focuses on helping children to build a deep understanding of maths concepts.
At the start of each maths lesson, all children will work on the curriclum year group they are in, they then will work in smaller groups where there will be a more targeted approach to teaching based on the groups needs and ability.
This half term we are looking at: fractions, decimals and percentages.
