Reception 2018 - 2019

Miss Gilbert

Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for Cheshire Police as a Community Support Officer for 6 years. Through working closely with school staff, parents and children of all ages, I developed my love of teaching. I completed my PGCE with Chester University and completed placements in two local schools. I have experience of working in Year 1, Year 5 and Year 6 but my real passion is early education so I am thrilled to join the school team as reception teacher.

I have 2 young children, but if I have any spare time then I enjoy reading, camping, bike riding and generally anything outdoors!

If you have any concerns surrounding your child then please feel free to talk to me.

Mrs Dudley-Davies

I have been working at Westminster Primary School since 2013. After spending two years working in key stage 2, I was thrilled to be asked to work with the children in Reception. Prior to joining Westminster Primary School I worked for 7 years in the local nursery. I have been highly trained in the EYFS curriculum and have also completed the ELKLAN course. The ELKLAN course enables me to work closely with children who need support with communication development across the curriculum.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Miss Coombes

I have been working at Westminster Primary since 2014 during this time I have worked in Year 2, Year 6 and now in Reception. My passion is working in the foundation stages of learning and I feel privileged to be involved in the start of their journey through school.

Mrs Sewell

I enjoy working at Westminster and being part of the school team. In my spare time I enjoy singing and I am a member of a singing group.

Welcome to Reception 2018/19

Summer Term 1.

This half term our topic is the seaside!

English

In English this half term, we will start off by learning all about the Easter story. We will look closely at each stage of Jesus' final days on Earth. The children will act out scenes, hot-seat characters and learn what Easter eggs represent. We will then be focussing on 'The Rainbow Fish' which will lead us into discussions about 'what really makes us happy?'.

During the half term, the children will be working on different styles of writing as well as continuing to develop their sentence structure (capital letters, finger spaces, full stops).

Knowledge of the world.

As our topic is the seaside, we will be looking at different 'seasides'. We will learn what makes a seaside and what we might find there. We will also look into how seasides have changed over time - I think the children will love to see some old-fashioned swimming costumes! To give us all the experience of the seaside, we will be visiting a local beach with the Year 6 children - fingers crossed it's nice and warm!

Reading.

The children will continue to be given a reading book to take home and read with their grown up. It is important to read with them daily as it will really support their development in reading and writing. We will also continue with our daily phonics lessons. The children are learning how to read and write sentences.

Maths.

In maths, we will continue to develop our addition and subtraction skills. We will also continue our number a week investigations and look closely at partitioning numbers up to 20. Our new role play area (as chosen by the children) is a beach shop, this allows for fantastic opportunities to learn about money, addition, subtraction, number formation and number recognition. We will learn to recognise coins and complete simple calculations with them. We will investigate maths concepts through a range of activities set up by myself and the team. Our aim is to give the children the knowledge to go and undertake activities independently.

Reminders

  • PE is on a Thursday please ensure your child has a full PE kit and suitable shoes. You can bring your PE kit in on a Monday and leave it in school.
  • Reading books should be returned to school everyday.
  • Water bottles - children need to bring their own bottle with water in.
  • The last week of this term, we will be starting our swimming lessons - more info to follow!

Thank you for your continued support. As always, please come to me if you have any issues.

Thanks

Miss Gilbert, Mrs Davies, Miss Coombes.
