Reception 2018 - 2019

Miss Gilbert

Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for Cheshire Police as a Community Support Officer for 6 years. Through working closely with school staff, parents and children of all ages, I developed my love of teaching. I completed my PGCE with Chester University and completed placements in two local schools. I have experience of working in Year 1, Year 5 and Year 6 but my real passion is early education so I am thrilled to join the school team as reception teacher.

I have 2 young children, but if I have any spare time then I enjoy reading, camping, bike riding and generally anything outdoors!

If you have any concerns surrounding your child then please feel free to talk to me.

Mrs Dudley-Davies

This is my third year at Westminster Primary School, after spending two years working in key stage 2, I was thrilled to be asked to work with the children in Year 1 and Reception. Prior to joining Westminster Primary School I had worked for 7 years in the nursery, so I already knew a lot of the children. I have recently successfully completed the ELKLAN course which will enable me to work closely with children who need support with communication development across the curriculum.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Mrs Sewell

I enjoy working at Westminster and being part of the school team. In my spare time I enjoy singing and I am a member of a singing group.

Welcome to Reception 2018/19

Welcome to Reception! This term we are focusing on 'Marvellous Me'. We will be discussing our homes, ourselves and people who help us. During the first half term the children will be learning the school rules and routines and experiencing a lot of firsts!

During the half term we will look at the poem 'I can be a pal' by Kristen Smith and learning what makes a good friend and how we can help each other inI Can Be A Pal-- building your classroom community our classroom.

We will then move onto 2 further focus texts - 'This is the bear' by Sarah Hayes and 'Emergency' by Margeret Mayo. We aim to deepen the childrens vocabulary through shared reading and focus activities.

The children have all been given a reading book to take home and read with their grown up. It is important to read with them as often as you can as it will really support their development in reading and writing. We will also begin to learn initial letter sounds this half term. The children will learn how to form the letter, what sound it makes and how to read it within a word.

In maths, we are learning to recognise the numbers 0-10 and talk about different aspects of space, shape and measure such as: taller and shorter, lighter and heavier, repeated patterns and 2D shapes. We do all of this through planned engaging activities and sessions around the classroom.

Reminders

PE will take place on a Friday please ensure your child has a full PE kit and suitable shoes.

Reading books should be returned to school everyday

Water bottles - children need to bring their own but please water only no juice!
